If you’re looking for a side-by-side that can handle the trail, put in some work, and still be a lot of fun to drive, the 2027 Can-Am Commander MAX XT 1000R is a great all-around machine. The MAX gives you the extra seating and longer chassis you want for bringing along family or friends, while the 1000R engine gives it plenty of power when the trail gets rough.
At the heart of the Commander is Can-Am’s 976cc Rotax V-twin producing 100 horsepower. It uses a Quick Response System (QRS) CVT with high-airflow ventilation and Electronic Drive Belt Protection, along with selectable Turf Mode, 2WD and 4WD. The auto-locking QE front differential helps keep the power moving when traction gets limited, while SPORT and ECO modes let you change the way the machine responds depending on whether you're out having fun or taking it easy.
The 1000R suspension package is a big part of what makes this Commander stand out. It gets arched double A-arms up front and arched TTA suspension in the rear, both with 15 inches of suspension travel. Twin-tube gas-charged shocks help soak up rough terrain, while the 13 inches of ground clearance and 28-inch XPS Trail King tires give you plenty of capability when the trail gets rocky, muddy, or uneven.
The XT package also comes ready for work. You get a 4,500-lb winch with synthetic cable, XT front bumper, premium half doors, full hard roof, mudguards, heavy-duty HMW plastic skid plate, and a 2-inch hitch receiver. The rear cargo box can carry up to 600 lbs, while the Commander MAX is rated to tow up to 2,000 lbs and has a 1,280-lb payload capacity.
Inside, the Commander keeps things straightforward and functional with an adjustable tilt steering wheel and a 7.6-inch wide digital display. LED lighting, a 10-amp DC outlet, D.E.S.S. anti-theft system, and a 10-gallon fuel tank round out the package.
With its 64-inch width, 13 inches of ground clearance, long 120.6-inch wheelbase, and ROPS-approved cage, the Commander MAX XT 1000R is built to give you a good balance of stability, trail capability, hauling ability, and passenger room.
